Four reels allegedly used by Greta Garbo come up for auction next month at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California. They comprise two automatic fly reels: one by La Soie of Paris and another by Perrine of Minneapolis, plus a Shakespeare Criterion 1960 and a South Bend 550. They come with a Pflueger lure and a fillet knife marked Made in Sweden, and are part of a two-day auction of property from the Greta Garbo estate. The auction catalogue says that Garbo would fish while visiting family in New Mexico in the 1950s and 1960s. We’d love to hear from readers who can tell us more. You would have thought she could probably have afforded better tackle, too. But maybe she just wanted to be alone.
