Mongolia is entering the world ice-fishing championships for the first time. The week-long event, which starts next week on Big Eau Pleine Reservoir in Wisconsin, has attracted teams from 11 nations, including Japan for the first time. Mongolia certainly has no problems with ice thickness (when I fished there a couple of years ago, I was told the temperature dropped in winter to -55 degrees), but the Asian country is not the first that springs to mind when you think of skilled ice-fishers.
