Rare books by William Blacker, Richard Franck, William Gilbert and Frederic Halford are among items in the latest catalogue from Patrick McGahern of Ontario. The rarest is probably the 1682 The Young Angler’s Companion, which carries a C$20,000 asking price. The Blacker, a first edition (1842) of Art of Angling, has the author’s signature on the last page, and is listed at C$7000, while a first edition (1694) of Franck’s Northern Memoirs, believed to be the first description of salmon fishing in Scotland, is on at C$10,000.
