Trevor Champ, chairman of the Irish Specimen Fish Committee, has died following a relatively short illness. A senior research scientist with the Central Fisheries Board (now Inland Fisheries Ireland) before he retired in 2008 , he devoted much of his time and expertise to improving water quality in Irish lakes and rivers. One of his great success stories was Lough Sheelin in Co Westmeath, where brown trout fishing has improved enormously after suffering severely from reduced water quality. Trevor took over chairmanship of the specimen fish committee in 2002 and led it through many changes in the specimen and record categories.
