A very rare 1887 Allcock catalogue is on offer at an online auction. It has 38 plates, with eight of them in colour, showing rods, reels, flies, lures, nets and creels. It was clearly designed to cover several markets because the front cover reads: “S Allcock & Co, Redditch, England, Angleterre. Album d’Illustrations. Gezeichnetes Musterbuch. It’s part of an online sale being run by Schotten Sports Auctions in Burford, Gloucestershire. The catalogue has a hard cover and apart from some rubbing and a little foxing, it is in excellent condition. Even the stick-on cover label is still remarkably well preserved. Pre-1900 Allcock catalogues are very rare, and one particular draw is that the lithograph illustrations, especially of the flies, are particularly fine. The online-only auction, which ends tomorrow, offers some quality items including a 32lb carved salmon by the Fochabers studio, an Allcock Dazzle bait, a Royal Doulton fruit bowl from the Compleat Angler series, A Hardy Birmingham and a Farlow’s tackle case.
