This handsome bream carries an 1888 date, and it’s on sale at Christie’s interior sale at South Kensington, London, on February 19. The fish weighed 3lb 5oz and does not have a label but it’s clearly the work of an accomplished taxidermist, possibly Cooper. The same auction also has a couple of the wonderful and highly sought-after Dunhill lighters, which display fish in an aquarium-style body. They are expected to make more than £1000 apiece.
On the tackle side, there’s a nice Perth-style trolling reel on offer at Taylor’s Auction Rooms in Montrose, Scotland on February 9. The 5in reel, with brass platewind action and rosewood body, carries a Farlow’s fish logo and looks to be c1880. It carries a £500-£600 estimate.
£500 – £600
