Nothing original about suggesting ABUs as reels that will rise in value, but one that has already gone way beyond its original retail price is the Suveran fixed-spool. It’s a brilliant reel to use, with its very sensitive adjustable drag just below the bail arm, and it’s very well made. These are selling at more than £200 if still mint in box. Make sure you buy the Swedish-made examples. It came in four spool sizes, though the four models, the 1000M , 2000M, 3000M, and 4000M, are the exact same reel with different spools. All have a 5.2:1 ratio. It came in two types of packaging: a simple cardboard box made for “Center Drag” reels with a sticker carrying the Suveran’s name stuck on the sides. The pouch that came with it was a cheap cloth one. The other, and more valuable, is a gold fitted box with a leather pouch. The Royal Warrant and the text on the top of the box are embossed.
