A seal has swum more than 50 miles (80km) along a river, crossing flooded fields to end up in a land-locked lake. Anglers who fish at Fen Drayton, near Swavesey, Cambridgeshire, wil lno doubt be worrying aobut the fate fo the lake’s big carp, which are known to grow to more than 50lb, after video of the seal was shown. The footage shows the seal battling to cross a barrier to get into a lake on the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) site. Graham Elliott of the RSPB said the seal could prove to be a “great visitor attraction”. Seals are occasionally spotted on the Great Ouse at nearby St Ives, but this is believed to be the first to turn up in a Cambridgeshire lake. Elliott said that there were plenty of fish in the lakes to sustain it. Anglers may feel slightly differently.
