An owner of a Florida charter boat is facing the threat of a jail sentence for failing to report his catches. Jason Cardinale, who runs Samana Expert Fishing Charters out of Jupiter, appeared in a West Palm Beach courtroom this week to face charges of submitting false no-fishing activity reports. If convicted, he could face up to five years in jail. Commercial fishermen must keep records and report the numbers of certain fish they catch. These include migratory pelagic fish, snapper, grouper, wahoo and dolphin. Cardinale submitted a form saying no fishing had taken place, though he had been running trips and selling the fish. Seems an excellent incentive to stop charter skippers lying about the number of fish they are taking. Full story here.
